Community is not a buzzword, it’s the engine of progress, according to Mo Shana’a, CEO and founder of Morta.

In 2018, we founded Morta with a bold mission: to increase the productivity of professionals by replacing manual Excel-based workflows with connected information hubs. Six years later, that mission remains unchanged. But what has driven our growth and success is something even more profound: our community. It’s a community of leading information managers and digital transformation experts, all united by a shared purpose: to unlock the full potential of data and information for the industry.

Community is not a buzzword for us, it’s the engine of our progress. On 25 November, we’ll celebrate Morta’s sixth anniversary at our virtual community day, bringing together those who have built Morta into what it is today. Led by some of our most engaged members, the day will be a showcase of insights, innovations, and real-world applications. This event is not just a milestone: it’s a testament to the power of a mission-driven community of builders changing the industry brick by brick.

Why community matters

In today’s landscape, ensuring that a company has impact is more difficult than ever. For many, this entails marketing campaigns, sales tactics and the next feature update. But for a new generation of companies, community is the key to success. For us, our community is more than a network: it’s a feedback loop and innovation engine that keeps us aligned with our purpose.

Our community aligns a fragmented industry by uniting information managers and digital transformation leaders under a shared mission of increasing productivity by streamlining and connecting information flow in construction projects. Unlike other no-code providers, Morta’s community is focused on a single industry, allowing us to accomplish more together. Many of our members are building their own tools on Morta and also use it in real-world projects. This practical experience continuously informs use-case and product development, creating a cycle that drives Morta’s evolution.

Our community is a powerful source of accountability. With a unified purpose, every member contributes to a culture of transparency, sharing successes, lessons and insights. This ensures Morta remains true to its mission and grounded in real-world challenges, constantly refining our approach.

Driving innovation from the ground up

Our community is Morta’s innovation engine, with members using the platform to tackle unique challenges in their projects and roles. Examples include Andrew Waring at Digital Guerilla, who built a validation platform powered by Morta; Helen Luhaar from Bouygues UK, who created a material and equipment delivery booking system; and Anas Ayoub, Megan Hughes and Veronique Makhlouf from XD House, who developed the first hub for appointed parties and went on to receive a Kitemark certification.

These applications illustrate the broad potential Morta holds to support diverse workflows, but most importantly, the role of our community in identifying these use cases that others can equally benefit from.

What comes next

As we come together to mark six years of Morta, our virtual community day will showcase exactly why this group is different. The event will feature sessions led by community members who have deployed Morta on multiple projects, showing real-world use cases of how the platform is transforming their work.

The day will end with panels focusing on three core themes: standardisation, digitisation and digitalisation; information delivery planning, tracking, and reviews; and data specification, tracking and assurance. Each will be chaired by our members rather than by us.

Building the future together

In many ways, our community members are shaping the future of information management in construction. They are putting to work global standards like ISO 19650; BuildingSmart specifications like IFC, IDS and BCF; and data from various software solutions. This isn’t just theoretical and it’s not just more talk: it’s happening on real projects, right now.

As always, we can’t wait to see what happens next – what we’ll learn, how we’ll listen, and how Morta will continue to grow thanks to the power of our community. We hope you’ll join us on 25 November for a special day of celebration and collaboration. Together, we’re building the future of construction, brick by brick.
