Colas is set to deploy its smart roads technology on its National Highways Area 9 motorway maintenance and response contract, covering the West Midlands and surrounding counties.

National Highways is moving closer to a digital twin of the national road network with the appointment of Sopra Steria to implement a cloud-based National Traffic Information Service (NTIS).

A Costain-led team has secured government funding to develop roads using digital twins, intelligent materials, data science and robotic monitoring.
