The government wants feedback on its plans to digitalise its procurement activities.
The Cabinet Office’s green paper, Transforming Public Procurement, sets out the government’s plans to speed up and simplify its procurement processes – and digital and a common data approach are key parts of the plans.
The government proposes the establishment of a single digital platform for supplier registration that ensures “they only have to submit their data once to qualify for any public sector procurement”, and it will legislate to introduce a common data model for all contracting authorities.
The government acknowledges the “current plethora of procurement systems” and that the data held in these systems is “generally not accessible in a consistent, machine-readable format. The systems do not share common data standards or data models and cannot interoperate.” Thus, more procurement data will be published and it will be done in a standard, machine- readable format, “accessible to all”.
The consultation deadline is 10 March 2021.
