Smart manhole sensors

Smart manhole sensor start-up ManholeMetrics was named a winner at the Innovate UK Young Innovators Awards. The start-up supplies sensors in smart manholes that monitor wastewater levels. It is supported by Thames Water and Yorkshire Water, among others, and plans to deploy a number of sensors for field trials in the coming months.

Glider grows leadership team

Glider has appointed John Simpson as its new head of information management, and David Hunt as head of customer success. Hunt joins from Autodesk, where he worked for more than four years as a principal customer success manager running several global accounts. Simpson joins Glider after seven years at Robertson Group, where he worked as head of digital construction and regional BIM coordinator.

NBS acquires Schumann International

NBS has acquired specification consultancy Schumann International. The consultancy, to be known as NBS Schumann, will provide a specification consultancy service to NBS customers via the NBS Chorus platform.

Revizto gains ISO 27001 accreditation

Revizto has been certified to ISO 27001, the standard for information security management systems and their requirements. The standard ensures that assets, such as drawings, 3D models and other design information, non-graphical data, project communications, project team information, clash detection data, construction progress, and potential facilities management data are protected.

Ofwat launches next innovation competition

Ofwat has launched the Water Discovery Challenge, a £4m competition for innovators working in the construction industry to deliver breakthrough solutions to be used by the water sector. Up to £50,000 will be awarded to up to 20 teams of the most promising innovators to develop their ideas, with expert support and mentoring from water companies. Up to 10 will go on to win up to £450,000 to turn ideas into pilots. The entry deadline is 5 April.

Esri UK appoints new MD

Pete Wilkinson has been promoted from services director to managing director of GIS software developer Esri UK. He has taken over from Stuart Bonthrone, who remains in his role as chief executive of Esri Holdings.
