A round-up of BIM, information management and digital construction stories you might have missed in the past month, including how the Mace Dragados JV has trialled the digital chain of custody for rebar.
Digitising rebar’s chain of custody
At HS2’s Euston Station project, the Mace Dragados JV has run a trial using the CARES Cloud system to prove the chain of custody for steel reinforcement bar, Construction Management reports.
Standardised QR codes are used on bundles of rebar provided by each CARES-certified rebar manufacturer. An available mobile app scans rebar that is received and used on the project, providing a digital record of the entire process.
The implementation of digital recording resulted in an 11-day saving in processing time for 712 tonnes of reinforcement.
Mark Enzer advises the PM
Mott MacDoald strategic adviser and Digital Twin Hub vice-chair Mark Enzer has been appointed as one of eight new members of the Council for Science and Technology. The Council advises the prime minister and the Cabinet on strategic science and technology policy issues that cut across the responsibilities of individual government departments.
PFI handback dashboard
Those interested in the medium-term challenge of PFI projects being handed back to their public sector clients may find the PFI dashboard useful.
Developed by the Infrastructure and Projects Authority on behalf of the Treasury, the dashboard allows users to filter data on PFI projects.
Haulage Hub links with FORS
Digital freight marketplace Haulage Hub has partnered with truck fleet safety accreditation scheme FORS to allow the latter’s 4,700 operators to trade work with each other.
Construction companies will benefit from the access to multiple hauliers who specialise within their own geographies, generating the potential to reduce waste and save money on deliveries to site.
Topcon and Faro reach strategic agreement
Topcon Corporation and Faro Technologies have reached a strategic agreement to develop and distribute solutions in the laser scanning market. The agreement is expected to expand access to digital reality solutions and result in complementary product developments, such as the integration of Topcon and Sokkia’s solutions with Faro’s.
