Gamers, developers, data scientists and more are invited to take part in a weekend hackathon with five permanent jobs up for grabs for the winners.

AtkinsRéalis said it is rapidly expanding and is trialling this novel approach to recruitment, in what it believes is an industry first, to spread the net wider.

It aims to challenge the idea that only those with engineering degrees can do well in the sector.

Hackathon participants will be challenged to create “cutting-edge” prototype solutions to real-world problems. Anyone can enter and there is no specific experience or qualifications required.

AtkinsRéalis’ head of digital for nuclear business Sam Stephens said: “Our digital teams work in dynamic and fast-paced environments, and we’re looking for a whole mix of skill sets and backgrounds to develop our technology solutions.

“We have over 500 patented solutions developed for the UK and clients across our global business, and the winning teams will be at the heart of driving innovation to power a clean energy future.”

The ‘#HackaFuture’ hackathon is being held at the Digital Skills Festival in Manchester.

Katie Gallagher, managing director of Manchester Digital, organiser of the festival, said: “AtkinsRéalis is looking for digitally savvy individuals who are ready to disrupt the industry with their ideas and skills.”

You can enter here by the deadline of 30 November. Teams of up to five can enter, and individual applicants will be matched with other competitors to create teams with balanced strengths.
